Located at the
intersection of SR-41 over IR-75 in the City of Troy, this simple landscape
plan uses a boulder excavated at the site, providing a center piece to the
low maintenance plantings.
The boulder is in a highly visible area, out side of the clear zone. Low cost and safety were taken into account as well as future maintenance. |

These preliminary landscape plans for the I-70/75 interchange in Dayton were developed with consideration to safety, maintenance and community values. The concept was developed in response to a design charette in which one of the outcomes was the vision for the project, Where Great Ideas Take Flight, Later the attendees were invited to look at some concepts and choose those that they felt best mirrored their feelings for the project. The county Manager was consulted throughout the development of this plan. |

The sunflower program was implemented across the
State as a way to beautify our highways during the late summer. The program
began in District 8 and is cost effective, easy to implement, and so popular
that it quickly spread to other districts. Sunflower seeds are relatively
inexpensive and can be planted with a minimal amount of work. One highway
worker in District 8 spends three or four days to complete the planting. The
flowers bloom in late August to early
September.
The seeds are the typical plants farmers across the nation grow for oil. They are short in stature, ranging in size from 3-4 foot, and are hardy and upright. Each sunflower is approximately 5-6" across. ODOT's policy has been to mow the plants to the ground immediately after the blooming cycle because of fear of infestation in farm fields. This process has been highly successful. |
